10- The Oil Cooling System

That great big over-grown oil cooler finally ended up inside the car, behind the rear seat. It is a totally sealed unit which draws cool air from the outside and returns the hot air back outside. It's thermostatically controlled per the temperature of the engine oil. The oil temperature has never exceeded 200 degrees, even on the hottest summer days.

Some folks have wondered why I didn't put the bloody thing on the roof or at the front of the car.

For two reasons:

  • Coolers are just plumb ugly on the roof. If they belonged there I assume Ford Motor Company would have mounted the radiator of my Lincoln Town Car on the roof!

  • I don't feel comfortable with my precious engine oil running all over heck in rubber tubing just waiting for something to poke a hole in it!

The oil cooling system is covered in detail in my new eBook, "The Type IV Engine Conversion Bible". You can see step-by-step instructions on installing it.
