The
"Staley" windproof hood design.
As stated in
a previous place, I choose not to hinge at the rear. I had very bad
experiences with a previous project and couldn't keep the hood
from blowing up and breaking windshields. My remedy is hinging at
the front with two 1" long flat hinges and putting rubber Jeep-style fasteners at
the rear. This will use the natural wind stream to help hold the
light-weight fiberglass hood
down.
I used small
stove bolts through the hood, with the flat hinges on the inside
of the hood, so everything would blend in after painting.
So what's so funny
about that? I have actually seen other cars designed like that!
If you don't want to follow my good advice, you had better plan
on driving your Bug backwards so the hood don't blow up. (Or you
might consider using bullet-proof glass in the windshield)
