The new rear end! "Bee-Attitude"
gets his
dream look.
The fiberglass
rear Baja parts are easy to install, with a little care.
These
instructions are suggestions from my experience only. There were
no instructions with the kit, so I had to blunder through it all.
The main thing is to think ahead and get a good fit between parts.
The following steps are not to imply that I did it the best way,
but if you are lost, they may give you a clue.
-
Drill the
pre-marked bolt hole locations on the fenders with a 5/8" drill.
-
Loosely hang
them in place with a bolt in front and rear.
-
Mark the rear
point where the fender meets the body. (remove fenders)
-
Remove engine
seals and deck lid and seals, if you haven't already.
-
Get a fire
extinguisher within reach.
-
Fire up the
cutting torch, and starting at the mark you made in step 3, cut a
line straight down the body to a point 2" out from the firewall
measured out on the lower engine seal holder.
-
Cut across the
lower engine seal holder, leaving a 2" triangular gusset between
the firewall and the body.
-
Cut through
the remainder of the body on both sides at the point of the mark
in step 3. This should allow the whole back section of the body to
be removed. If it isn't free you will have to cut anything still
holding it. Just use common sense and think it through.
-
Dress all cut
edges with an angle grinder.
-
Mount rear
fenders using original fender bolts and large fender washers.
-
Place rear
spoiler and you will see that you will need to trim and adjust the
angle of the body metal under each end of the spoiler. When you
get a good fit you can pop-rivet it to the body using long 5/32"
rivets. Just be certain to carefully bend the body metal to match
the spoiler, so when you pull the rivets down, the spoiler won't
crack.
-
That is about
it. Like I said, take your time, look ahead on each step, get a
good fit between parts and all should go well.
