6- Engine Fitting

The Upright Conversion kit that I chose to use. This one uses your stock Type 1 Alternator and cooling fan. It is shown installed in the left photo.

Converting to upright cooling is only one of the issues you must deal with in order to fit the Type IV engine into the Type 1 Beetle. There are flywheel modifications, exhaust modifications and rear bracing addition, just to mention a few. I spent the first 6-months researching all of the issues before starting to do the conversion. Even after all of this I had to go back and spend more money and hard work because things broke. I can attest to the old saying, "Experience is the best teacher". If only I could have bought a book that told me how to do this I would have saved hundreds of dollars, not to mention the hours of frustration!

This is why I wrote a book! I compiled all of my research and experience into a book that tells you everything you need to know about the Type IV engine and how to fit it into the Beetle.
